on the blog

Well, Mother Nature has been busy here in Columbus this week! All the rain has fallen, everything is so green and blooming because of it-which is amazing BUT…wow has the wet weather thrown spring sports for loop here! Our MIT long run on Saturday was water logged, to say the least. We ran the trail that is parallel to the Olentangy River. Within hours, parts of the trail we ran out on were totally flooded! Made our run back to our launch location a great adventure! Lots of rescheduling, canceling and logistics managing for all middle school high school and college spring sports too…ahhhh! Hoping we get a bit of reprieve this week from all the rain…a little sunshine would be amazing!

My white shoes were of course totally muddy after the wet run on Saturday…found a little cleaning trick on IG and thought I try it.
IN A BOWL MIX:
toothpaste
baking soda
warm water
I used a toothbrush to scrub it into the shoe. Let it rest and then rinse.
I did it a few times. Not like new but much cleaner than after our run on Saturday!!
SNACKS AND SIPS OF THE WEEK
STRAWBERRY YOGURT CLUSTERS
These have been a fav of mine for months! Super easy to make and super yummy to eat!
Mix in a Bowl
1 Container of Fresh Strawberries sliced
Half of a large Container of Plain Yogurt-I use Dairy-Free Yogurt

On a cookie sheet place spoon full clusters of the Strawberry/Yogurt Mix until sheet is full. Place in freezer for at least 30 minutes. While the clusters are in the freezer, melt a small bag of DARK CHOCOLATE CHIPS in a bowl. Use the microwave and heat until they are all melted.
Pull the clusters out of the freezer and drizzle the melted DARK CHOCOLATE over top of each cluster. Put them back in the freezer for another 30 minutes.
Once solid, I put them in freezer storage bags and store them in our freezer. Super easy to grab for a quick snack.
LEMON GINGER SHOTS
My Personal Trainer clued me in on this and I am so glad he did. Great anti-inflammatory trick. There are several ways I have tried this little concoction and each way has worked for me.

- Frozen Shots popped into a tall glass of water
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice in ice trays. Add grated ginger and turmeric. Let freeze. Pop one cube a day into a morning glass of water
- Liquid Shot
- In a small pitcher, squeeze a lemons, add grated ginger and turmeric and place in the fridge. I found that making a large amount at once was the most efficient way to go about this.
- Once a day I drink this shot straight, usually about a 1/2 a cup-ish in a small glass.
MORE THAN MY SPORT
Ever wondered what it would be like to try a sport or other activity that you have never tried before? Pushing you outside of that comfort zone of your happy place for just a bit. Tennis has been in my life since I was 7. I immersed myself in all aspects of the game, it was such a deep part of me. LATER, like much LATER the running bug hit which totally threw me for a loop. It changed and challenged me in way tennis never had. It opened up my world and brought a new piece to my heart. Tennis never left and truly my passion for the sport has grown with time. Stay open and stay willing. Say yes to trying new things. You never know how new experiences and opportunities will enhance you and the sport that is your true love.
THIS WEEK IN WOMEN IN SPORTS HISTORY
This week in women’s sports history, April 7,2025 , marks the anniversary of the 1999 Women’s World Cup final where the US Women’s National Team won against China, a game that helped propel women’s soccer to new heights.

- 1999 Women’s World Cup Final:On July 10, 1999, the US Women’s National Team, led by players like Kristine Lilly and Briana Scurry, won the Women’s World Cup against China, a victory that took place in front of 90,000 fans in Pasadena, California.
- The Rise of Women’s Soccer:This victory, and the team’s overall performance in the tournament, helped catapult women’s soccer to a new level of popularity and recognition.
- The USWNT’s Legacy:The US Women’s National Team’s success in the 1999 World Cup, and their subsequent achievements, have inspired generations of young female athletes and continue to be a source of pride for many.
- Other Notable Events:This week also saw other important events in women’s sports history, including the Battle of the Sexes tennis match in 1973, where Billie Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs, and the rise of women’s basketball.
- Continued Progress:The ongoing growth and popularity of women’s sports, including the NWSL, WNBA,and NCAA women’s basketball, demonstrate the continued progress and impact of women in sports.
ALL THE GEAR
WATER BOTTLE
Essential gear for any athlete, right? How many of these have you been through in the last few years? I have had a few favs but replace them every so often. I have owned a few different HYDROFLASKS and now have the bright pink LULULEMON bottle. I am one that dislikes bottles with straws, so always looking for other options. I love this bottle I currently have. It has dents now from dropping it a few times. Oh well, that is expected, I think it happens to pretty much all metal water bottles. Do you have a favorite brand? I am always on the search!

TENNIS BAG

I have owned the same brand of tennis gear since high school-in different variations. Just this past fall, I felt it was time to try new brands and styles. I had important specs for a new tennis bag. As I was searching, I went down the tennis bag rabbit hole. I watched all the videos on each brand and version. Want to know about tennis bags, I’ve got you. I landed on this YONEX bag that checked all the boxes. There are more pockets than I could ask for. It has a shoe tunnel and holds 12 rackets (I think, right now I have 5 stored). It also has a backpack carry option and the color is perfect. Totally perfect!
